You may need an evaluation for infertility …
… if you and your partner have been trying to get pregnant through intercourse or donor insemination for more than 12 months if you’re younger than 35 years old or for more than 6 months if you’re older than 35 years.
About 15% of couples may have problems with fertility. At the time of an infertility consultation, we will work together to determine a potential cause for difficulty in becoming pregnant by asking questions, ordering laboratory tests or suggesting imaging studies for you and your partner. In 40-50% of cases there can be a male factor contributing to infertility and for that reason we will ask questions about your male partner and may recommend semen analysis. If semen analysis is recommended we will provide a collection kit and instructions for your partner. If a particular cause for infertility can be identified, then a corresponding treatment can be recommended. About 30% of couples who experience infertility will have unexplained infertility, but even so, many of these cases may be treated successfully.
